Scott Moore | Quest Center for Integrative Health

On September 9th, I am participating in AIDS Walk Portland, and I need your help!

Once again, I am walking in Portland AIDS Walk in support of Quest Center for Integrative Health and Cascade AIDS Project. Both these organization have been advocating and supporting individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Oregon for the past three decades.

Along this 30 year path, much progress has been achieved. Improved health care for folks living with HIV/AIDS gives individuals greater ability to achieve viral suppression through antiretroviral therapy. Increased access to PreP, the use of anti-HIV medication that keeps HIV negative people from becoming infected, is a powerful prevention tool. Now, studies now verify that virally suppressed individuals cannot transmit HIV.

At Quest Center, we know these medical improvements are best achieved through ongoing support for individuals at risk and living with HIV. Quest Center provides psychosocial support, mental health services, substance use disorder treatment, and peer specialist for individuals living with HIV regardless of their ability to pay. All AIDS Walk funds raised by Team Quest go directly to support our HIV positive clients.

Sadly, the systems that support people living with HIV/AIDS are under attack through dramatic reduction of funding and social services across the board by Congress and the Trump Administration.

There can be no equivocation; our forward momentum must not be impeded. Despite progress, one in eight Oregonians infected with HIV are unaware of their status. Longtime survivors too often live in isolation and depression. The lack of affordable housing in Portland places individuals in conflict of paying for housing over wellness.

Quest Center and CAP are committed to keeping vital safety net services in place. Together, with your support, we can ensure that Oregonians and SW Washingtonians living with HIV continue to have programs in place so they can achieve a life of health and wellness.
